Sustainable fashion made from hand spun silk yarn
Silvia Vassão is a Brazilian fashion designer based in New York City who designs silk crochet pieces, handcrafted by artisans in fishing villages in southern Brazil. She is also committed in offering crochet workshops in community of mothers, creating jobs and sustaining the ancient art of crochet.
The silk yarns are sourced in the Brazilian “silk valley” where an excellent silk is produced artisanally, hand spun and dyed with natural pigments such as mate herb, eucalyptus fiber, coffee and urucum. These rustic pieces are produced in the small town of Garopaba in Brazil.
The collection reflects a gypset lifestyle, crossing continents, traveling through the seven seas, making stops at the chic, exotic destinations where the garments are meant to be worn and is retailing in boutiques in St Barths, Saint Tropez, Tulum, Miami, Bridgehampton and New York.
