Initiated by Kering and presented to the Heads of States on August 26, 2019 in the frame of the G7 Summit, the Fashion Pact federates today more than two hundred brands from fourteen countries. It has established a digital dashboard of KPIs on which each brand is committed to reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.

Actions to be taken focus on three thematic areas, stopping global warming, restoring biodiversity and protecting the oceans: they aim to achieve net-zero carbon impact by 2050. Besides the digital dashboard of KPIs developed with the strategic reporting support of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG),  the Fashion Pact is engaging with key climate experts in the industry, 2050 and SYSTEMIQ,  who have mapped out strategic areas for collective efforts, without duplicating existing initiatives, to inform business decisions and to provide assistance in accurate reporting and target-setting.

The whole process is based on Science Based Targets (SBTs) for Climate in respect of the principles of the U.N. Fashion Charter and whose steps are: achieving 25% low-impact materials sourcing and 50% renewable energy by 2025, and 100% renewable energy by 2030 in their own operations.

Members will set out individual biodiversity blueprints by the end of 2020 and commit to supporting zero deforestation and sustainable forest management by 2025.

Regarding the protection of the oceans, signatories will achieve the elimination of problematic and unnecessary packaging and ensure that at least half of other plastic packaging in B2C is 100% recycled content by 2025 and the same rules will be applied for B2B by 2030.
